Aside from weapons and armour, basic equipment is an adventurer's livelihood. Boots, outerwear, basic adventure gear and a backpack are all but mandatory for any kind of trek into the wilderness. Depending on your skills, you may need specialized tools such as climbing gear, precision tools or a first aid kit. For those with money to burn, more advanced or sophisticated tools such as compasses, telescopes or sextants can be extremely useful in certain situations.

Clothes

Everyone needs clothes, and everyone starts with a free set of simple (lower classes), normal (middle classes) or fancy clothes (upper classes). Beyond that, though, you'll need to pay.

Containers

In addition to your basic clothing, you'll probably also want some bags or containers to carry your gear in. Note that most containers effectively put a cap on the maximum Bulk of gear carried in them. A backpack, for example, can hold 30 Bulk worth of gear, but you only have to consider the first 20 Bulk when calculating how much you're carrying. You can only ever gain this reduction in Bulk from one of each type of container, regardless of how many you carry.

Equipment is the bedrock of the adventuring lifestyle - without it, you won't get far. Wherever you go and whatever you do, you will always need a pot to cook in, a tarp to sleep under, and tools to help you confront every day challenges. Savvy adventurers know are always careful to carry specialized tools that complement their skills, and are wise enough to partner with other adventurers who bring complementary abilities and equipment to along for the journey.
