Cosutanu
Cosutanu is named for the Cosutanu family who were the feudal lords of the village at the end of the Imperial Era, prior to the dissolution of the Tuloszian Kingdom in 1185. With the bankruptcy of the Kingdom, the Trade Bank of Bosznel presided over the distribution of royal lands to settle the Kingdom’s debts with its creditors. The Cosutanu lands and holdings were given to the Guild of Obrum, who were not well established in the Plains of Bulostioi and so struggled to maintain a presence and benefit from the lands, which they sold off piecemeal over several decades to individual families and small companies.
The village shrank and fell into disrepair, and if not for the bridge over the Prulme, likely would have disappeared entirely as happened to several similar sized villages in the region when drought and famine swept much of the world starting in 1311. The bridge, and the trade route between Dileniu and Bulostioi that relied on it, were important enough that when the Grain Bank of Bulostioi started buying up land in 1313, Cosutanu was high on their list.
Over the following sixty or seventy years, the Grain Bank and the Guild of Obrum rebuilt the road connecting Dileniu to Bulostioi, repaired the bridge, and constructed new aqueducts that accelerated the redevelopment of the lands around Cosutanu.
By the late 1300s, the region was recovering. Towns and villages left depopulated were growing again, and lands left fallow for decades were returned to productivity and were being expanded.
By 1423 the population of Cosutanu itself had reached a new high of 851. It is a prosperous village, and while it is technically recognized as a holding of the city state of Bulostioi, it is closer and more easily accessible from Dileniu, and both cities are invested in the support, development and protection of the village.
Here the Prulme River, whose headwaters are 250 km up stream toward Dileniu, turns east before winding down south toward the port of Prulme. While Cosutanu is dependent on Bulostioi and Dileniu for most of their trade, the fall harvest in the surrounding region can be very large, and trade down the Prulme River brings lucrative returns that support the village through the winter.
